I've had lots of problems with trying to get my phone connected to my computer for Flashing purposes
Here's what i've learned:
1:The cable has to be a STRAIGHT USB meaning it can't have the buldge in the middle like the futuredial's. FutureDial's cable allowed me to sync my Contacts and Calendar with Motorola Phone Tools, that's it!
2:The Software was meant to run on XP (PST anyone?). Initially i was on Windows 2003 Server, and Mobile PhoneTools would connect and allow me to transfer Ringtones, and graphics. PST WOULD NOT INSTALL on WIN2003Server because of the Registry edits.
3: Each program tends to have their own special drivers for the phone. By default, windows found my phone as a "Motorola Modem". If you install PST, and tell it to find the driver in the C:\ProgramFiles\Motorola\PST\ folder, it will find it as a "Motorola V300" and install all the special drivers for flashing/editing the software. Mobile Phone Tools installs the drivers when it does a search for the phone, AFTER IT'S INSTALL AND RUNNING. Once found it will display a picture of YOUR phone and it should connect. I haven't used MMT or anything MIDway.
4: PST = Programming/Flashing the Phone
MPT = Normal Operation (backup/restore, file transfer, data calls)
MIDway = JavaApp transfer
MMT = ?? (Any help?)
I used PST and MPT to Flash and transfer files(exception of games). I just post the games to my Wireless site and download them.
5. Operation.
After I found that PST wouldn't install on Windows2003 Server, I connected using MPT(Motorola Phone Tools) and saved a copy of my Phone book and Calendar. Then I reformatted back down to XP. After installing XP, and providing basic drivers, and Windows Update... I installed PST with my phone DISCONNECTED. After PST made the PC restart and WindowsXP loaded, I plugged in the phone. When promted for drivers, I told it to include the folder C:\Program Files\Motorola\PST\. Once that phone driver was installed, I then launched the program "MultiFlashFlex" program from the above PST directory. Once the program launched, it connected to the phone, and Windows installed some more drivers, which originate from the PST directed listed above. Once it found the phone it connected and allowed me to copy the FLEX file to it. I did not flash the firmware from all the current bugs reported.
6. MPT
After PST installed the new FLEX, I closed down PST, and installed MPT(Motorola Phone Tools) and did all the updates with the phone DISCONNECTED. Once the program was updated, I connected the phone when it prompted me to during the search of the phone. Bling Bling, it allowed me to transfer files still (Tho it detected it as a v600 because of the FLEX).
7. Data Settings
Once your phone is flashed, all data connectivity was lost, like Internet access and MMS settings. My carrier information was saved like Phone Number and Text Messaging Information. But I had to remake a Data Connection for wap. I am on T-Mobile and the Settings are here:
This only works with the v600 Software update(the flex) because my v300 didn't allow editing of the data setup, as the v600 software does.
On the phone Click the Menu button >> WebAccess >> WebSessions
Select "New Entry"
